MGA Entertainment Initiates Merger with Zapf Creation AG

LOS ANGELES and RÖDENTAL, Germany, Oct. 09, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MGA Entertainment, Inc. (MGA), one of the world’s largest and fastest growing privately held toy and entertainment companies, announced today that it intends to merge with Zapf Creation AG, Europe’s leading manufacturer of nurturing dolls. Specifically, MGA’s wholly-owned German subsidiary, which is the current direct major shareholder of Zapf Creation AG, has approached Zapf with an invitation to enter into negotiations of a merger agreement. MGA and Zapf Creation AG have had a collaborative business relationship for the sales and distribution of both companies’ brands for nearly 20 years. The merger is expected to close in Spring 2024.

No further details are available at this time; however, the leadership of the companies will work closely to plan the merger and will make appropriate announcements as information becomes available.

Qatari, Palestinian leaders discuss situation in Gaza

Qatar's emir on Sunday held a meeting over the phone on recent developments in the Gaza Strip with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

During the meeting, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stressed that reducing tension and stopping the loss of civilian lives were top priorities for Qatar and that Doha continued to pursue diplomatic efforts with various parties to achieve this goal.

Sheikh Tamim also reaffirmed his country's unwavering support for the legitimate rights of Palestinians, including the establishment of a Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem based on a two-state solution.

He also called for a cease-fire and urged restraint, condemning all Israeli attacks undermining a just resolution to the Palestinian issue and targeting Palestinians, their land, and their sacred values.

For his part, Abbas thanked Sheikh Tamim for his support of the Palestinian cause and people.

Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on Saturday, saying the surprise, multifront attack on Israel was in response to the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased settler violence. It said it fired thousands of rockets and captured numerous Israelis.

In retaliation, the Israeli army initiated Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

More than 430 Palestinians have been killed and at least 2,300 others injured in the attacks, according to medical sources in Gaza, while the Israeli death toll climbed to over 700.

Germany’s industrial output down at slower pace

Germany's industrial output slipped 0.2% in August from the previous month, according to official data released on Monday.

This fourth straight month of decline followed July's upwardly revised 0.6% monthly fall, German statistical authority Destatis said in a statement.

The decrease was mainly led by a drop in energy production by 6.6%, construction by 2.4%, and the manufacture of machinery and equipment by 2.3%.

Production in the automotive industry, on the other hand, grew 7.6% month-on-month, shifting from a 9.4% plunge in July.

On an annual basis, industrial production ticked down 2% in August, following a 1.7% decrease in July.

Trkiye's benchmark stock index opened Monday at 8,300.69 points, plunging 1.94%, or 164.24 points, from last week's close.?

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed Friday at 8,464.93 points, down 0.27%, with a daily trading volume of 126.5 billion Turkish liras ($4.56 billion).

The US dollar/lira exchange rate was 27.7005 as of 10.10 a.m. local time (0710GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 29.2063, and a British pound traded for 33.7492 Turkish liras.?

Brent crude oil was selling for around $87.28 per barrel, while the price of an ounce of gold was $1,862.85.
