Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani arrived in Tripoli on Sunday on the first such visit to the Libyan capital since 2013.
The top Qatari diplomat met upon arrival with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh during which they discussed ways of strengthening bilateral relations, according to a statement issued by the government’s media office.
The meeting was attended by Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush and a number of ministers.
The Qatari minister is expected to meet with other senior Libyan officials, including Mohamed al-Menfi, head of Libya’s Presidential Council.
Qatar and Libyan maintain strong relations and have several bilateral agreements in the political, economic and security fields.
