10-Man Manchester City Triumphs Over Manchester United in Intense Derby

Manchester: A 10-man Manchester City defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season. Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the Manchester derby in the second half after City were reduced to 10 men when Phil Foden was sent off in the 23rd minute.

According to Anadolu Agency, Foden received a straight red card after kicking out at United captain Bruno Fernandes following a challenge near the touchline. Despite their numerical disadvantage, City managed to hold their ground against a persistent United side.

United came close shortly before halftime when Marcus Rashford curled a 25-yard free kick beyond the reach of a fully stretched Gianluigi Donnarumma, only for the ball to strike the outside of the left post. The hosts hit the woodwork again seven minutes after the restart as Kobbie Mainoo's dipping effort from outside the penalty area struck the left post.

City thought they had broken the deadlock on the hour mark when Haaland converted Josko Gvardiol's low cross at the back post, but the goal was initially ruled out for offside. Following a VAR review, however, the decision was overturned and the goal was awarded in the 63rd minute, with Haaland ruled onside.

City nearly doubled their advantage six minutes later when Enzo Fernandez curled a right-footed effort toward the bottom corner, but United goalkeeper Senne Lammens produced a save to tip the ball onto the woodwork. United continued to push for an equalizer, with Bryan Mbeumo sending a header narrowly wide from Diogo Dalot's cross in the 73rd minute.

The hosts had one final opportunity deep into stoppage time when Fernandes played Mbeumo in behind the City defense, but Donnarumma reacted sharply to turn his effort behind. City held on, despite playing more than an hour with 10 men to secure their fourth victory from four league matches and move to 12 points. United, meanwhile, remain on four points after four matches.
