Baalbek: At least 12 people were killed and eight others injured when Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes in Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, marking a violation of a ceasefire agreement, local media reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, seven Syrian nationals were among the fatalities in the strikes that targeted a camp for Syrian refugees in the Wadi Fa'ra town in Baalbek, as reported by the state news agency NNA.

Israeli airstrikes were also reported in the outskirts of Shmustar town and Wadi Umm Ali, though information about injuries in these locations was not yet available.

The Israeli army claimed that the attacks targeted Hezbollah sites in the area. However, there was no comment from Hezbollah on this claim.

Cross-border warfare between Israel and the Hezbollah group in Lebanon escalated into a full-scale war last September. Despite a ceasefire established in November, Israeli forces have continued near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, citing Hezbollah activities as their targets.

Since the ceasefire, Lebanese authorities have reported nearly 3,000 Israeli violations of the truce, with at least 236 people killed and more than 540 injured.

Under the ceasefire deal, Israel was expected to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26. However, the deadline was extended to February 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply. Currently, Israel maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
