Istanbul: The 13th Bosphorus Film Festival, organized by the Bosphorus Culture and Arts Foundation in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism's General Directorate of Cinema, opens its doors this Friday evening in Istanbul.
According to Anadolu Agency, the festival, which will continue until November 14, features a rich program under the theme 'all the colors of cinema.' Festival Artistic Director Enes Erbay highlighted that the screenings will be held at key venues in Beyoglu, including Atlas 1948 Cinema, AKM Yesilcam Cinema, and Istiklal AVM Cinema Pink.
The festival will showcase over 50 films and special events, with the opening film being 'Palestine 36', directed by Annemarie Jacir, which also stands as Palestine's submission for the Oscars. Erbay mentioned a special focus on Palestinian cinema this year, including four additional films in this section, along with other special screenings such as biographical and fictional films.
Erbay emphasized the festival's dual aim of offering varied cinematic experiences and fostering young filmmakers' skills. Masterclasses led by director Anupam Barve and actor Saleh Bakri, along with panels on Turkish cinema's international reach, are part of the festival's offerings.
The festival's competition includes both national and international categories, with ten films competing in each. A record number of submissions were received, particularly in the documentary category, which accepted 11 films.
The Bosphorus Film Festival continues to be a central platform for Turkish cinema and a showcase for emerging filmmakers. Istanbul audiences are encouraged to participate in the festival activities and screenings.
The festival opens with 'Palestine 36', which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and serves as Palestine's entry for the Academy Awards. The Palestinian showcase includes films such as 'All That's Left of You', 'The Voice of Hind Rajab', 'With Hasan in Gaza', and 'Yalla Parkour'.
The festival hosts a range of national and international competitions, including feature films, short films, and documentaries. Special screenings include a documentary on Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu and a film tracing director Biket Ilhan's journey.
