Ankara: Some 14 commercial vessels have transited the Strait of Hormuz in a 24-hour period as diplomatic negotiations between the US and Iran remain stalled. During this period, 11 vessels moved through the strait from the Arabian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, while three others traveled from east to west.
According to Anadolu Agency, vessels that went through the strait from west to east included the Indian-flagged cargo ship V Noor E Hashmi, departing from Somalia; the Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier Fortune Lord, traveling from China to the United Arab Emirates; and the Indian-flagged cargo ship Msv Goushe Oliya, operating between Emirati ports. Movements in the opposite direction included the Iranian-flagged landing craft Kashani 4, moving between Iranian ports, and the Comoros-flagged general cargo vessel Andiya 1, departing from Iran.
Other vessels included the Chinese-flagged bulk carrier Lai Zhou 66, traveling from Iraq to the UAE; the Comoros-flagged general cargo ship Ramesh 3, departing from Iran; and the Indian-flagged cargo ship Msv Harsh Sagar, leaving the UAE. The Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier Rosalina moved from Iran to Oman, while the Iranian-flagged landing craft Omidan 5 traveled from Iran to the UAE. Additional Comoros-flagged and Iranian-flagged vessels also participated in the transit.
The strait's closure to maritime traffic for more than eight weeks has heightened supply concerns in the markets and strengthened expectations that the crisis could be prolonged, supporting the upward movement in prices. US President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that Tehran had "requested" Washington lift the blockade on the strait. On his Truth Social platform, Trump also alleged that Tehran told him "the system in Iran is on the verge of collapse."
