Duhok: Two women kidnapped by the ISIS (Daesh) terrorist organization were rescued on Thursday after 11 years, bringing the total number of rescued Yazidis, an endogamous religious group in Iraq, to 3,593.

According to Anadolu Agency, Hussein Qaidi, head of the Kidnapped Yazidi Rescue Office under the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) Presidency, announced at a press conference in Duhok, Iraq, that the women, aged 21 and 26, had been held captive by ISIS for 11 years. Their rescue comes as a result of ongoing efforts by the authorities.

Qaidi revealed that the women had endured repeated torture and were sold multiple times during their captivity. This tragic ordeal highlights the brutal conditions faced by numerous Yazidi women under ISIS control.

He further stated that the total number of rescued Yazidis now stands at 3,593, while approximately 2,500 remain missing. The Iraqi official emphasized that efforts continue to locate the remaining missing Yazidis.

The abductions occurred in August 2014 when ISIS terrorists seized the Sinjar district of Iraq's Mosul province, a region predominantly inhabited by the Yazidi community. During this assault, 6,417 Yazidis were abducted, and many others lost their lives.
