Aleppo: Three members of Syria's internal security forces were injured on Wednesday following shelling by the PKK/YPG terror group, operating under the name of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), that struck a neighborhood in the northern city of Aleppo. The injuries were reported in the vicinity of Sheihan Roundabout, an area targeted by the SDF.
According to Anadolu Agency - English, the SDF also attacked Tishreen Street, which leads to Sheihan Roundabout, using artillery. Preliminary information indicates there were injuries as a result of the shelling. The broadcaster added that the injured security personnel were hurt while assisting civilians trying to evacuate the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods amidst ongoing fighting.
Earlier reports from Al-Ikhbariya TV stated that the SDF fired shots to prevent civilians from leaving the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh districts. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) confirmed that SDF forces were blocking residents attempting to flee these neighborhoods from reaching humanitarian corridors set up by the Syrian army.
According to SANA, the designated corridors for safe civilian exit amid SDF attacks are located in the Al-Awarid area and Zuhur Street. The Syrian Civil Defense reported evacuating 2,324 civilians from Aleppo due to deteriorating humanitarian conditions and the ongoing shelling by the SDF as of 2:40 pm local time.
These developments are part of escalating tensions and displacements in parts of Aleppo, as SDF renewed its shelling of residential neighborhoods for the second consecutive day. This follows a deadly attack on Tuesday, where at least five people were killed and 16 others injured in Aleppo.
The Syrian army has declared military positions of the SDF in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods as 'legitimate targets' following the group's recent escalation. On March 10, the Syrian presidency announced an agreement for the SDF's integration into state institutions, aimed at reaffirming territorial unity and rejecting division. However, Syrian authorities claim the SDF has not complied with the agreement's terms in the months since.
