Zhuhai: At least 35 people were killed and 43 others injured in a car-ramming incident in southern China on Tuesday, state media reported. The tragic event unfolded outside a stadium in the city of Zhuhai, located in the southeastern Guangdong province, when a 62-year-old man drove his vehicle into a crowd, according to police. According to Anadolu Agency, the suspect, identified only by his last name Fan, carried out what authorities described as an act of 'self-harm.' Police intervened when Fan attempted to take his own life and transported him to a hospital. He had sustained a self-inflicted knife wound and is currently in a comatose state. An initial investigation by the police suggested that Fan was motivated by 'dissatisfaction with the division of marital property from his divorce.' This incident has caught the attention of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has instructed officials to focus on treating the injured with "all-out efforts." President Xi also called for the accused to be punished accord ing to the law and directed local governments to 'strictly prevent extreme cases' in the future. The incident has raised concerns about public safety and the need for measures to prevent similar occurrences.
