Beirut: Four Lebanese soldiers were killed in Israeli airstrikes, the army reported on Thursday, as Israel continued to expand its ongoing offensive in Lebanon.

According to Anadolu Agency, a military statement revealed that the four troops were killed on Wednesday due to ‘hostile Israeli targeting,’ though further details on the location of the strikes were not provided. There has been no immediate comment from the Israeli military regarding the attack.

The Israeli army escalated its attacks across Lebanon since Wednesday, despite a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan between the US and Iran. This ceasefire was intended as a preliminary step towards a final agreement to halt a war initiated by Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran on February 28. Although Islamabad and Tehran asserted that the ceasefire includes Lebanon, Washington and Tel Aviv have denied this.

Lebanon’s Civil Defense reported that Israeli airstrikes resulted in at least 254 deaths and 1,165 injuries on Wednesday alone. Israel has been conducting airstrikes and a ground offensive in southern Lebanon following a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2, despite a ceasefire that was supposed to take effect in November 2024.

Lebanese authorities have stated that since the escalation, at least 1,739 people have been killed and 5,873 others injured in the Israeli attacks.
