Ankara: Four members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in overnight US-Saudi airstrikes in Iraq's northern Diyala province, according to Iranian media on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Mehr News Agency identified the four as Ali Asghar Astaneh, Abolfazl Motaqi, Morteza Akbari, and Amir Abbas Darhamforoush, stating they were all from the central Iranian city of Kashan. The agency reported the fatalities as a result of a US-Saudi attack in Diyala but did not elaborate on their roles or the specifics of the strike.

The report surfaced shortly after Iranian media announced that several Iraqis injured in the same strikes had been moved to Iran through the Khosravi border crossing for medical care.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that US and Saudi forces executed joint precision strikes against targets tied to Iranian-aligned groups in Iraq. The operation aimed at sites associated with attacks on US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.

Saudi Arabia declared the strikes were a self-defense measure under Article 51 of the UN Charter, following assaults launched from Iraqi territory on the kingdom's petroleum facilities. Riyadh cautioned it would pursue further military action if Iran-backed groups continued attacks.

The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a primarily Iran-backed coalition of Shiite armed groups, confirmed that several of its headquarters were struck in the attacks, resulting in at least 20 of its members killed, 32 others wounded, and significant property damage.

Iran has denounced the strikes, labeling them a breach of Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
