Ankara: A 5.0-magnitude earthquake jolted southwestern China Tuesday, state media reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, the earthquake, with a depth of 6 kilometers (3.8 miles), occurred in Mojiang County in Pu'er City, located in the southwestern region of Yunnan province. This information was reported by Beijing-based Xinhua News, citing the China Earthquake Networks Center.

There was no immediate report of casualties or infrastructure damage from the earthquake, and the power grid in the county remained operational. Despite the absence of significant damage, authorities took precautionary measures by halting some passenger train services in the area, leading to delays on the China-Laos Railway.

In response to the earthquake, the Yunnan provincial earthquake relief headquarters activated a Level-IV emergency response to manage the situation effectively.
