5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Chiapas Coast

Chiapas: A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Mexico's southern Chiapas state late Monday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. The earthquake occurred at 11.02 pm local time Monday (0502GMT Tuesday) at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

According to Anadolu Agency,The center reported that the epicenter was about 122 kilometers (76 miles) southwest of Tapachula, a city with a population of approximately 202,000 people. Additionally, it was noted that the epicenter was 106 kilometers (66 miles) west-southwest of Brisas Barra de Suchiate.

According to Mexican news outlet N+, Chiapas Civil Protection authorities stated that preliminary monitoring found no reports that the earthquake was felt in the Soconusco region or caused any damage.
