Wellington: A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck off the east coast of New Zealand's North Island on Sunday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.

According to Anadolu Agency, the quake occurred at 0835GMT at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), as reported by the GFZ. There were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries, or significant damage to infrastructure.
