Gaza city: At least 50 displaced Palestinians, including two children, were killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, medics said. The strikes have intensified the already dire situation in the region, targeting various locations where civilians had sought refuge.
According to Anadolu Agency, a medical source reported that five people lost their lives when Israeli forces bombed a tent sheltering displaced families in al-Mawasi in the southern city of Khan Younis. In the same city, five more civilians were killed in a separate airstrike, highlighting the widespread impact of the ongoing conflict.
The source further revealed that two children, aged 2 and 3, were killed in an overnight strike on their home in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City. The escalation has not spared educational facilities either; seven Palestinians were killed when Israeli fighter jets targeted Al-Hurriya School in the Zeitoun neighborhood and Halawa School in Jabalia al-Balad, both of which were housing displaced civilians.
Medics reported that a strike in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood in eastern Gaza City resulted in five fatalities and several injuries. In another incident, an Israeli drone shelled a group of civilians in the Al-Zawiya market in central Gaza City, killing two and injuring 15 others.
The violence extended to the al-Shakoush area near a US-run distribution point northwest of Rafah in southern Gaza, where Israeli forces opened fire, killing five people and injuring over 25 others. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, these attacks contribute to a toll of at least 549 Palestinians killed and more than 4,066 injured by Israeli fire near aid distribution points in Gaza.
A medical staff member at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital confirmed that one Palestinian was killed in a drone strike in the Wadi al-Arais area of the Shejaiya neighborhood of Gaza City. Furthermore, an airstrike in the al-Sabra neighborhood in southern Gaza City resulted in the death of four individuals.
In central Gaza City, an Israeli drone attack on a tent housing displaced people near Al-Samer Junction injured several individuals, while bombardments in the northern town of Jabalia and nearby areas resulted in one death, as reported by a medical source at Al-Shifa Medical Complex.
Civil defense teams recovered the bodies of seven people, including women and children, from the rubble following an Israeli strike in Jabalia al-Nazla in northern Gaza. Another strike in the same town killed six more Palestinians and wounded over 20 others.
Despite international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has continued its offensive against Gaza since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of 56,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the enclave.
