7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Malaysia

Geneva: A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck off Malaysia on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake hit about 55 kilometers (34 miles) northwest of Kota Belud in the state of Sabah, on the island of Borneo.

According to Anadolu Agency, there were no immediate reports of casualties following the earthquake. Malaysia, while sitting outside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire', occasionally experiences tremors from regional seismic activity. This seismic activity often originates from nearby regions such as Indonesia and the southern Philippines.
