Khartoum: Eight people, most of them children, were injured Thursday in a drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on an area in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, local authorities said.

According to Anadolu Agency, Khartoum state authorities released a statement indicating that acting Governor Ahmed Al-Mustafa Ali visited the injured at the government-run Al-Naw Hospital following the morning attack on the Al-Fath area west of Omdurman. The statement confirmed that the number of injured reached eight, with most victims being children who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Al-Mustafa Ali condemned the RSF's targeting of unarmed civilians. Earlier on Thursday, Sudanese army air defenses responded to the drone attack targeting the capital, as reported by eyewitnesses to Anadolu.

Sudanese authorities and rights groups have repeatedly accused the RSF of targeting civilian facilities. The paramilitary group generally does not comment on such accusations and claims it works to protect civilians.

On August 24, the United Nations reported that 1,100 civilians were killed in drone attacks across Sudan between January and June of this year. The RSF and the Sudanese army have been engaged in conflict since April 2023 over disagreements about the integration of the paramilitary force into the military. This conflict has triggered one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and approximately 13 million people displaced.
