ANKARA: Polish top seed in women's singles Iga Swiatek and Serbia's Novak Djokovic, world No. 2 in men's tennis, have qualified for the third round at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships on Thursday in London. Swiatek beat her Croatian opponent Petra Martic with straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 to face Kazakh player Yulia Putintseva in the next stage. In men's singles, Djokovic booked his place at the third round. Seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic won a four-set match against British Jacob Fearnley, 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, and 7-5 in the second round. In the next phase, Djokovic will meet Australia's Alexei Popyrin. Djokovic, who has won a record 24 Grand Slam titles in his career, last secured a Wimbledon trophy in 2022.
