ANKARA: Midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has announced his retirement from the Swiss national football team after a 14-year spell. "Seven tournaments, many goals, 14 years with the Swiss national team and unforgettable moments. It's time to say goodbye to the national team. Great memories remain and I say to you all: Thank You!" the 32-year-old said on Instagram on Monday. Shaqiri is the second-most capped Swiss player with 125 appearances. He is also the fourth top scorer of the national team with 32 goals. He won the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup trophies in his club career, once each with English Premier League side Liverpool and German Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich.
