For the period January - August 2024 average total government employment reached 54,227 persons, marking an increase of 2,019 persons (3.9%), compared to the corresponding period of 2023, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Wednesday. In August 2024, total government employment reached 52,452 persons. In the Civil Service, there were 12,035 permanent employees, 4,222 employees with contracts of indefinite duration, 1,209 employees with contracts of definite duration and 5,848 hourly paid workers. Permanent employees represented the highest percentage of total employees in the Civil Service (51.6%) and employees with contracts of definite duration represented the lowest percentage (5.2%). In the Educational Service there were 11,883 permanent employees, 1,155 employees with contracts of indefinite duration, 2,013 employees with contracts of definite duration and 142 hourly paid workers. Permanent employees represented the highest percentage of total employees in the Educational Service (78.2%) and hourly paid workers represented the lowest percentage (0.9%). In Security Forces there were 8,354 permanent employees, 4,547 employees with contracts of indefinite duration, 296 employees with contracts of definite duration and 748 hourly paid workers.
