BISHKEK: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday called for unity among Turkic nations to support a just resolution of the Palestinian issue. “As the Turkic world, it is extremely important that we continue our efforts for a lasting and just solution to the Palestinian issue,” Erdogan said in his address at the sixth meeting of the Trkiye-Kyrgyzstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Bishkek.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan emphasized the urgency of addressing regional security threats, citing Israel’s attacks on Lebanon as a destabilizing factor in the region. He reiterated the call made at the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Shusha for an immediate cease-fire and humanitarian aid to those affected in Gaza. Erdogan also underscored the importance of the two-state solution as a pathway to lasting peace.
Parallel to the Palestinian issue, Erdogan highlighted Trkiye’s ongoing commitment to combating terrorism in collaboration with Kyrgyzstan. He specifically men
tioned efforts against the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), identified as the orchestrator of the 2016 failed coup in Trkiye. “Our fight against all forms of terrorism, especially FETO, will continue uninterruptedly,” Erdogan stated.
The Turkish president’s visit to Kyrgyzstan was marked by an official reception from his Kyrgyz counterpart, Sadyr Japarov. The visit included participation in the 11th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States and the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region.
In their discussions, Erdogan and Japarov agreed to elevate their strategic partnership through a new agreement, aiming to deepen cooperation in areas such as security, transportation, and health. Erdogan expressed his optimism about future bilateral relations, saying, “I believe the decisions we made and the goals we set will shape the future of our relations.”
The economic dimension of the cooperation was also emphasized, with Er
dogan and Japarov setting a new bilateral trade volume target of $5 billion. Erdogan highlighted Trkiye’s role as a major investor in Kyrgyzstan and the significant developmental support provided through TIKA, which has implemented over 1,000 projects in the country.
Educational cooperation was another focal point, with Erdogan urging the swift completion of an educational cooperation agreement. He praised Manas University’s global ranking and stressed the importance of continuing collaborative efforts to enhance the university’s impact on Kyrgyzstan’s human capital.
