Washington: US President-elect Donald Trump announced late Sunday that Tom Homan, the former acting director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will serve as his administration's "border czar." This role will encompass oversight of the nation's borders, including the Southern Border, Northern Border, as well as maritime and aviation security. According to Anadolu Agency, Trump shared the news on Truth Social, expressing confidence in Homan's abilities to manage border control and deportation. "I've known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders," Trump stated, highlighting Homan's previous experience and commitment to border security. Homan is known for his strong advocacy of the "zero tolerance" policy implemented during Trump's previous administration, a policy that led to the separation of thousands of families at the southern border. The policy drew widespread public criticism, eventually leading Trump to sign an executive order in 2018 to end family separations.
