Washington: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has reached out to US President-elect Donald Trump, congratulating him on his recent electoral victory and expressing a desire for a personal meeting. Prabowo, who is visiting the United States at the invitation of outgoing President Joe Biden, shared a video on social media platform X of his phone conversation with Trump, though he did not specify the exact timing of the call. According to Anadolu Agency, President Prabowo conveyed his congratulations to Trump, offering to travel to meet him in person. During the call, Trump complimented Prabowo on his leadership in Indonesia and his proficiency in English, to which Prabowo attributed his skills to American training. The conversation also touched on the attempted assassination on Trump in July, with Prabowo expressing relief at Trump's safety. Prabowo mentioned hosting Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and expressed hopes of maintaining contact. Trump showed interest in visiting Indonesia in the future and extended his regards to the Indonesian people. He also assured Prabowo of an open line of communication as Prabowo embarks on his presidency, which began on October 20. Prabowo's international tour commenced with a visit to Beijing, where he secured agreements worth $10 billion. Following his US visit, he is scheduled to meet President Biden at the White House, attend the Asia Pacific Cooperation forum in Peru, participate in the G-20 summit in Brazil, and conclude with an official visit to the UK.
