Baku: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues, according to Trkiye's Communications Directorate. The meeting took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference COP29 World Leaders Summit. According to Anadolu Agency, the leaders focused on strengthening the relationship between Trkiye and the UK, with Erdogan expressing a commitment to enhancing trade volume. He also emphasized Ankara's ongoing efforts to resolve regional conflicts, specifically in Ukraine, Lebanon, and Palestine. The Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, and officials from the Communications Directorate were also present at the meeting. The UK Prime Minister's Office stated that Starmer extended his condolences to Trkiye in light of the recent terror attack on a defense industry facility in Ankara. Starmer affirmed the UK's support for Trkiye in combating terrorism and expressed interest in continuing collaboration on clean energy initiatives. He highlighted the economic opportunities tied to the renewable energy sector as a focus for future cooperation. Both leaders agreed on the importance of boosting bilateral trade relations. In discussions regarding the Middle East, Starmer called for de-escalation and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to ensure regional security and stability. The COP29 summit, which started in Baku on Monday, aims to unite global leaders, policymakers, and activists in addressing climate challenges. This year's conference in Azerbaijan focuses on actionable commitments and innovative funding mechanisms to encourage global progress.
