Trkiye Hails ICC Arrest Warrants for Israeli Leaders.

Ankara: Trkiye welcomed International Criminal Court arrest warrants Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for their actions in the Gaza Strip. Trkiye's parliament speaker praised the warrants as a sign that 'the protective shield' on top Israeli officials will finally end. According to Anadolu Agency, Numan Kurtulmus expressed hope that the arrest warrant signifies a future where the protective shield over Netanyahu and his associates will be lifted. He described the Hague court's decision as a 'step of historical importance,' emphasizing its significance in holding those believed to be untouchable accountable for their actions against the Gaza Strip since October 2023. Kurtulmus highlighted the International Court of Justice's ruling as a pivotal moment, indicating that Israel, once thought to be beyond reach, is now being held accountable. He attributed this decision to the support given to the Palestinian people by what he calls the 'humanity fro nt.' He further urged the global community to suspend Israel's UN membership due to its practices, asserting that conscience and justice will ultimately triumph over oppression. Trkiye's vice president, Cevdet Yilmaz, also welcomed the ICC's decision, viewing it as an important turning point for justice. He described it as the beginning of the end for crimes against humanity and war crimes, expressing optimism that Netanyahu and his associates will soon face justice. Yilmaz called on the global community to support the decision and firmly oppose human rights violations. The ICC's issuance of arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant is based on allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip. The warrants coincide with Israel's continuing offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in a significant loss of life, displacement, and severe humanitarian shortages, pushing the population to a critical state.
