GAZA CITY: The World Health Organization (WHO) has successfully evacuated 11 children requiring cancer treatment from Gaza to Jordan, amid escalating calls for enhanced medical aid in the region. The evacuation, which included 20 accompanying guardians, underscores the dire medical needs faced by thousands in the conflict-stricken enclave, as highlighted by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. According to Anadolu Agency, Tedros took to social media platform X on Tuesday evening to emphasize the urgent necessity for increased medical evacuations. He urged the use of all available routes to facilitate the safe transfer of patients needing critical life-saving treatments. "Thousands of patients across Gaza still need medical evacuations for life-saving medical care," he remarked, further noting that "peace is the best medicine." The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza has led to a significant strain on healthcare services, leaving many residents without access to essential medical treatments. The region's healthcare infrastructure has been severely compromised, exacerbating the challenges faced by those in need of urgent medical attention. The current conflict follows a Hamas attack last October, which triggered a military response from Israel described as genocidal. The ongoing violence has resulted in over 44,500 deaths, predominantly affecting women and children, and has left nearly 106,000 individuals injured. International criticism has intensified during the second year of the conflict, with global leaders and organizations condemning the attacks and obstruction of aid as deliberate attempts to annihilate a population.
