Tokyo: Japan's Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi announced on Wednesday that Tokyo is committed to engaging China through dialogues aimed at resolving unresolved issues and enhancing cooperation between the two nations. Speaking at the 20th Tokyo-Beijing Forum's opening ceremony in Tokyo, Takeshi emphasized Japan and China's 'significant responsibility' towards the region and the global community. He noted that fostering Japan-China relations is beneficial for numerous countries and people, as outlined in a statement from Japan's Foreign Ministry. According to Anadolu Agency, Takeshi highlighted the intention to strengthen communication at 'all levels' following a mutual understanding reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. He underscored that the foundation of Japan-China relations lies in exchanges and mutual understanding between their citizens. Takeshi expressed optimism that the candid discussions at the forum among experts from both nations would lead to po sitive outcomes. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also participated in the event via a video message, expressing hope that Japan would 'objectively' and 'rationally' consider Beijing's development. He urged Japan to collaborate with China in maintaining the correct positioning of promoting strategic and mutually beneficial relations, emphasizing the importance of being partners rather than posing threats to each other. Wang further remarked on the challenges posed by unilateralism and protectionism, stressing the need for China and Japan to jointly safeguard unity and cooperation in Asia and prevent external forces from inciting confrontation. The Tokyo-Beijing Forum serves as a non-governmental platform for dialogue, involving experts from Japan and China. It is organized by The Genron NPO and the China International Communications Group and has been held annually since 2005, alternating between Tokyo and Beijing.
