Tehran: Iran announced on Monday the resumption of flights to Europe as of Jan. 31 after a three-month suspension. Hossein Pourfarzaneh, the head of Iran's Civil Aviation Authority, stated that the first flight will be from Tehran to the French capital, Paris.
According to Anadolu Agency, the inaugural flight will be operated by an aircraft belonging to Iranian airline Iran Air Tours. This development comes after a period of suspended flights, which was initiated following European Union sanctions imposed on Oct. 14. The sanctions targeted specific individuals and entities, including Iranian airlines, due to the alleged transfer of drones and missiles from Iran to Russia for use in the conflict in Ukraine.
The day after the sanctions were announced, Jafar Yazarloo, the spokesperson for Iran's Civil Aviation Authority, confirmed that Iranian airlines had canceled their flights to European destinations. The resumption marks a significant step toward restoring air travel links between Iran and Europe.
