Seoul: The new US administration and South Korea have agreed to maintain close cooperation on North Korea's nuclear issue, Seoul's Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday. This agreement emerged during a phone conversation between South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussion marks the first contact between the two diplomats since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, who has recently expressed a desire to resume peace talks with North Korea. The talks between Cho and Rubio touched on enhancing bilateral relations, addressing North Korea's nuclear ambitions, and fostering trilateral cooperation with Japan.

In addition, the foreign ministry revealed that both sides are planning to arrange face-to-face discussions in Washington as soon as feasible, signaling a strong commitment to collaborative diplomatic engagement.
