Sumy: Ukraine announced that at least seven individuals lost their lives in an overnight Russian drone attack that struck a residential building in the northeastern city of Sumy. The incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the dangers faced by civilians in the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service shared on Telegram that the body of an additional victim was discovered at the attack site, increasing the death toll to seven. The statement further revealed that as of 5 p.m. (1300GMT), 13 people, including a child, sustained injuries. Rescue operations and debris removal efforts are ongoing as emergency teams work tirelessly at the scene.
In response to the attack, the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office had previously reported a death toll of six on Telegram. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack through a statement on X, describing it as a “horrific tragedy” and called on the international community to maintain pressure on Russia.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported on Telegram that its air defenses successfully intercepted 37 out of the 76 drones launched by Russia across ten regions of the country overnight.
