Ankara: The last half-century has seen a dramatic surge in climate-related extreme weather events.
According to Anadolu Agency, the WHO Regional Office for Europe stated on Wednesday on X that 'over the past 50 years, extreme weather events have increased by 400% due to climate change.' The UN agency highlighted the effects of climate change on numerous health issues, including infectious diseases, respiratory and non-communicable diseases, mental health issues, and injuries such as drownings.
The WHO emphasized that 'climate change drives disease burdens of all types,' indicating the wide-ranging health implications of these environmental changes. The agency urged for collective action to address the climate crisis and mitigate its health impacts.
