Erbil: Iraq and Trkiye are prepared for the resumption of oil exports from the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) via Trkiye's Ceyhan Port, with oil shipments expected to begin soon, the president of the KRG said on Wednesday. Speaking at the Erbil Forum 2025 in Erbil, Nechirvan Barzani highlighted the financial implications of the suspension, which has resulted in a substantial loss of $19 billion to $20 billion for Iraq.
According to Anadolu Agency, Barzani emphasized Trkiye's readiness for the resumption of oil exports, stating there are no issues concerning the export of KRG oil. He reiterated that oil should be viewed as a commercial commodity rather than a political one. Barzani noted that both Iraq and Trkiye are prepared for the exports, with only technical matters such as company financing remaining to be addressed. He expressed optimism that oil exports would resume soon.
Barzani also acknowledged the supportive role of the US in facilitating the resumption of oil shipments. He described the US as a key partner to both Iraq and the KRG, highlighting its encouragement in this matter. American companies are already involved, and Russia also contributes support through its companies in the field.
Discussing the Development Road Project, Barzani underscored its strategic importance, advocating for a design that benefits all Iraqis and unites rather than divides them. He emphasized that the KRG should not be excluded from the advantages of the project. Barzani also noted Trkiye's readiness to assist, indicating that the issue is an internal matter to be resolved between Baghdad and the KRG.
