Washington: US President Donald Trump will deliver a high-stakes address to Congress on Tuesday night, focusing on the economy, the war in Ukraine, and border security, among other issues, the White House announced. The speech, set for 9 p.m. Eastern Time (0200GMT Wednesday), marks his first joint address since the beginning of his second term.
According to Anadolu Agency, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt previewed the speech on Fox News, stating, "The theme is the renewal of the American Dream. And the renewal of the American Dream is underway already." She highlighted Trump's accomplishments in his first month, including economic reforms and border security measures.
Leavitt indicated that Trump will address the "economic mess" left by the Joe Biden administration and outline plans to end the war in Ukraine and secure the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip. "He's also going to make an ask of Congress tonight," she noted, emphasizing the need for more border funding to support ongoing deportations, which have been a focal point of the administration's immigration policy.
The speech comes as the Trump administration has prioritized strict immigration enforcement, rapid deportations, and increased border security funding. On the topic of Ukraine, Trump has consistently expressed his intention to broker a peace deal, although the process remains unclear following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's controversial trip to Washington last week.
Trump has pledged to "tell it like it is" and make significant announcements during this address.
