Ankara: UK, France, Italy, and Germany on Saturday welcomed the Arab League's reconstruction plan for Gaza. "We, the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom welcome the Arab initiative of a Recovery and Reconstruction Plan for Gaza," the foreign ministers of the four countries said in a joint statement.
According to Anadolu Agency, the plan outlines a realistic approach to rebuilding Gaza and promises a swift and sustainable improvement in the living conditions for Palestinians residing in the region. The statement released by the foreign ministers emphasized that recovery and reconstruction efforts need to be grounded in a solid political and security framework that is acceptable to both Israelis and Palestinians. This framework aims to ensure long-term peace and security for both parties.
The joint statement also highlighted the importance of the central role of the Palestinian authority and the implementation of its reform agenda. On Tuesday, an emergency Arab summit in Cairo adopted Egypt's $53 billion reconstruction plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip, ensuring that Palestinians are not displaced from their land.
The Arab proposal was introduced in response to US President Donald Trump's plan to "take over" Gaza and resettle Palestinians, a plan he described as developing the area into the "Riviera of the Middle East." This plan was met with widespread rejection by the Arab world and other nations, who criticized it as ethnic cleansing.
