Washington: Fewer than 20% of Americans support US President Donald Trump's push to annex Canada and Greenland, according to a new YouGov survey. The survey, conducted on 1,677 US adults from March 20-24, found that only 19% supported America annexing Greenland when asked if they 'favor or oppose America annexing Greenland.' The number of respondents in favor of 'Canada becoming America's 51st state' is even lower, at only 17%.

According to Anadolu Agency, nearly half of Americans oppose annexing Greenland, with 49% against the idea, and a clear majority of 57% are against acquiring Canada. About a third of the respondents are unsure, with 26% uncertain about Canada and 32% about Greenland. Americans are divided on whether Trump has focused on important issues during the first two months of his second term, which began on January 20, with 43% believing he did, and 45% thinking he concentrated on less important matters.

Since taking office, Trump has repeatedly suggested acquiring Greenland and Canada, reflecting a broader expansionist rhetoric aimed at asserting US dominance. Many political analysts argue that he has neglected 'kitchen table' issues that he emphasized in his campaign, such as the price of groceries, in favor of fringe ideas, such as territorial expansion, that he seldom mentioned. Besides Americans, numerous surveys have also found that Canadians and Greenlanders are overwhelmingly opposed to becoming part of the US.
