Washington: Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok announced that while negotiations with the US continue, any agreement reached will be subject to compliance with Chinese law.

According to Anadolu Agency, TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, released a statement emphasizing the need to resolve key issues in the ongoing discussions with the US government. The company stated, "An agreement has not been executed. There are key matters to be resolved. Any agreement will be subject to approval under Chinese law."

This announcement follows US President Donald Trump's decision to extend the deadline for TikTok's forced sale by 75 days, allowing the platform to continue its operations in the US for the time being. This marks the second extension granted to TikTok since January.

TikTok's operations in the US have been in a state of uncertainty since former President Joe Biden signed legislation requiring ByteDance to sell the platform or face a ban. Despite TikTok's legal challenges, the US Supreme Court upheld the law.

The platform, which serves 170 million users in the US, briefly went offline before Trump's inauguration in January but resumed operations after he indicated a potential reassessment of the ban. Media reports suggest that several US companies, including Amazon, have shown interest in acquiring TikTok.
