Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he is "not looking" to pause tariffs but indicated a willingness to engage in negotiations with various countries. According to Anadolu Agency, Trump made these remarks at the White House while accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. When questioned about the possibility of pausing tariffs that are scheduled to take effect later in the week, Trump responded, "Well, we're not looking at that." He emphasized that many countries are seeking to negotiate trade deals with the US, which he assured would be fair and, in some cases, involve substantial tariffs. Last Wednesday, Trump announced the imposition of a minimum 10% tariff on all imports and higher reciprocal tariffs specifically targeting major trading partners such as China and the European Union. He mentioned a conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, in which he urged Japan to open its markets to American cars. Trump highlighted that nearly every country, inc luding Israel, is eager to negotiate trade terms with the US. He noted that Israeli goods currently face a 17% US tariff and suggested that the US might not reduce tariffs on Israel, citing the substantial US aid provided to the country. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed a commitment to eliminating the trade deficit with the US, stating, "We intend to do it very quickly. We think it's the right thing to do and we're going to also eliminate trade barriers."
