Antalya: A former employee of China's military industry has been sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in an espionage case, according to media reports. The announcement was made by Chinese authorities on Saturday, highlighting the severity of the charges against the individual.

According to Anadolu Agency, the convict, known only by the surname Wei, was previously employed by a research institute under a Chinese military industry group. Wei faced charges of stealing and selling vital secrets related to technological research and development, as well as the practical application of critical sectors. The Global Times newspaper reported that Wei was accused of having been recruited by a foreign spy agency, subsequently selling over 1,000 documents to foreign entities. Among these documents were six classified and 536 secret-level materials concerning significant technological research and applications.

In a separate but related incident, Taiwan has detained Ho Jen-chieh, a former assistant to the current head of the National Security Council, who was once Foreign Minister Joseph Wu. This arrest, made on Thursday, is part of an ongoing espionage investigation, as reported by state-run Focus Taiwan. Ho is suspected of leaking sensitive information to China, involving other key figures such as Wu Shang-yu, an advisor to Taiwanese leader William Lai Ching-te, among others.
