Gaza City: Palestinian authorities restored water supply to around one million people in Gaza City on Thursday after a two-week interruption.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Ramallah-based Palestinian Water Authority announced that its teams successfully repaired a main water pipeline serving the city, which had been damaged during Israeli attacks two weeks prior. The repair now facilitates the resumption of water flow from the Israeli company Mekorot.

The statement highlighted that the pipeline is crucial as it provides water to approximately 70% of Gaza City's neighborhoods, serving nearly one million residents. The disruption was initially reported by the Gaza Municipality on April 5, noting a disconnect in the water pipeline responsible for bringing Mekorot's water to the city.

Hosni Mehanna, Gaza municipality spokesperson, had informed Anadolu at the time that the disconnect impacted the main pipeline situated in eastern Gaza City, an area where Israeli forces have been actively conducting military operations. The renewed Israeli assault on Gaza, which began on March 18, marked the breakdown of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement established on January 19.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of more than 51,000 Palestinians since October 2023, with a significant number of casualties being women and children. In response to the escalating humanitarian crisis, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
