Riyadh: The top diplomats of Saudi Arabia and Iran held talks over the phone on Monday to discuss indirect nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington. A Saudi Foreign Ministry readout revealed that discussions between Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, focused on bilateral ties and developments concerning the Iran-US nuclear talks, which are being mediated by Oman.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two ministers exchanged views on regional and international issues, as well as regional stability. However, the statement did not provide further details. Saudi and Iranian officials have been engaging in regular meetings and maintaining contact in recent years, with the aim of stabilizing their bilateral relations and enhancing coordination on regional matters.

Iran and the US participated in a third round of nuclear negotiations mediated by Oman on Saturday, with both sides acknowledging that substantial progress had been made during the initial phase. The talks, which are primarily centered on Iran's nuclear program, have transitioned from general discussions to more technical details, according to Araghchi, who commented after Saturday's third round concluded in the Omani capital.

US President Donald Trump has threatened military action against Iran if a new nuclear agreement is not reached to replace the 2015 nuclear deal, from which Washington withdrew in 2018.
