Trump Criticizes Harvard Over Foreign Student Enrollment

Washington: US President Donald Trump stated that Harvard University will need to alter its practices following his administration's efforts to stop the institution from enrolling foreign students. "Billions of dollars have been paid to Harvard. How ridiculous is that? Billions. ...And they have $52 billion as an endowment. ...So, Harvard is going to have to change its ways," Trump remarked to reporters at the White House. According to Anadolu Agency, Trump's comments followed a declaration by Secretary of Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, who announced that the department planned to revoke Harvard's capacity to admit foreign students. Noem accused the university of fostering violence, antisemitism, and collaborating with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus. However, a US judge has temporarily stopped the administration from implementing this action against Harvard. When questioned about whether other universities might face similar restrictions, Trump indicated that his administration is r eviewing various options. The administration has also threatened to cut federal funding to several universities, including Harvard, due to campus protests supporting Palestine and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. In response to these actions, the Trump administration has already withdrawn $3 billion in funding and has threatened to revoke Harvard's tax-exempt status. Harvard has filed a lawsuit against the administration, arguing that the funding freeze infringes on the First Amendment and federal law, which prohibits the president from directing or terminating an IRS audit or investigation.
