Pacific Nations: Pacific nations on Wednesday vowed to abide by the one-China principle at the Xiamen meeting in southern China.

According to Anadolu Agency, a joint statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that all parties recognize there is only one China globally, with Taiwan being an inalienable part of China's territory. It was asserted that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the entirety of China.

The meeting, officially the third China-Pacific Island nations' foreign ministers' meeting, took place in Xiamen city within the Fujian province and was chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Top officials and representatives from 11 island countries, including Kiribati, Niue, Tonga, Nauru, Micronesia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Fiji, and Samoa, were in attendance.

The joint statement also highlighted China's firm opposition to 'Taiwan independence' in any form and reiterated the commitment to national reunification, which received understanding and support during the meeting. The principle of non-interference in internal affairs was also emphasized.

Beijing made a point to assure that China's assistance comes without political strings and is free of empty promises. Notably, the Solomon Islands, Kiribati, and Nauru have previously shifted their diplomatic relations to Beijing, with Nauru being the most recent to sever ties with Taiwan in 2024, reducing Taiwan's diplomatic allies to 12.

The statement concluded with a commitment to the international nuclear non-proliferation regime as outlined in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, alongside a collective willingness to contribute to the peace, development, and stability of the Pacific region.
