Madrid: Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, and Norway have renewed their commitment to implementing a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, marking one year since they officially recognized the State of Palestine. The nations emphasized the importance of establishing a viable and contiguous Palestinian state with recognized borders, including Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to Anadolu Agency, the joint statement issued by the foreign ministries of the four countries highlighted the two-state solution as necessary for addressing the national aspirations and security needs of both Palestinians and Israelis. The statement also noted that recognizing Palestine was a step toward creating momentum for reviving the two-state framework.

The announcement referenced the upcoming High Level Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, scheduled for June 17. The conference is expected to provide international legitimacy and a framework for advancing the two-state solution.

The statement urged the international community to take steps toward recognizing both Palestine and Israel and supporting United Nations membership for Palestine. It also called for an agreement between the parties leading to mutual recognition. The nations reminded the global community of its responsibility to change ongoing dynamics that have perpetuated violence and devastation in the region.
