Istanbul: A senior Russian official announced that Istanbul is rapidly becoming the primary venue for negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. The two countries engaged in their first direct talks in three years earlier this month in the Turkish metropolis.

According to Anadolu Agency, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoygu emphasized during a meeting with Trkiye's National Security Council Secretary General Okay Memis that Istanbul is evolving into the main platform for discussions on multiple issues. These include the Black Sea, the Black Sea deal, the grain deal, and the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian negotiations.

The report also highlighted Shoygu's gratitude towards Trkiye's leadership for facilitating direct dialogues between Russia and Ukraine. Shoygu acknowledged Ankara's considerable efforts in ensuring security and creating favorable conditions for the delegations' work.

On May 16, Istanbul hosted the first direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in three years. During these discussions, both parties agreed to a significant prisoner exchange involving 1,000 individuals from each side.
