Trkiye Elected to UN Economic and Social Council with 174 Votes

New York: Trkiye was elected on Wednesday to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the principal body responsible for coordinating the UN’s work on sustainable development and economic issues. This election marks a significant step for Trkiye as it joins the council to help steer global development efforts.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trkiye’s UN envoy, Ahmet Yildiz, expressed gratitude to member states for their trust and support in a statement on X. Yildiz emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “We look forward to working together to advance global development agenda.”

Trkiye secured its position with 174 votes within the Western European and other States regional group and will serve a three-year term. Alongside Trkiye, Australia, Finland, and Norway were also elected under the same regional group. In total, 18 countries were elected to ECOSOC, including four from African states, four from Asia-Pacific states, three from Eastern European states, and three from Latin American and Caribbean states.
