Dushanbe: Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday described Russia as a ‘major strategic partner’ during talks with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in the capital Dushanbe, saying bilateral ties remain a top priority for his administration. Rahmon emphasized that the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States heads of government meetings serves as a crucial platform for enhancing regional cooperation. He stated that the relations between the two countries are developing dynamically.

According to Anadolu Agency, Mishustin conveyed greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed that Moscow valued its close coordination with Dushanbe. He noted that Russian-Tajik trade increased by 7% to 44 billion rubles ($489 million) in the first four months of 2025. Mishustin highlighted the potential for increasing mutual deliveries and projects in sectors such as machine-building, agriculture, mining, and energy. He also pointed to the Days of Culture of Tajikistan taking place in Moscow and Kazan as an indication of strengthening cultural ties.

The Russian premier further mentioned that he and Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda are dedicated to fully implementing decisions agreed upon by the leaders of both countries. The meeting follows Rahmon’s recent official visit to Russia and his participation in Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, highlighting the ongoing high-level engagement between the two allies.
