Astana: China's President Xi Jinping on Tuesday attributed the "sudden escalation of tensions" in the Middle East to Israeli military actions against Iran, calling for an end to military conflicts. During a meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Astana, Xi expressed China's deep concern over the situation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the leaders were in Astana to participate in the second China-Central Asia summit. Xi emphasized China's opposition to any actions that violate the sovereignty and security of other nations. He stated that military conflict is not a solution and that escalating regional tensions are not in the international community's interest.

The Chinese president appealed to all involved parties to de-escalate the conflict and prevent further deterioration. He affirmed China's readiness to collaborate with all parties to help restore peace and stability in the Middle East.

Earlier, Beijing had advised its citizens to leave Israel and Iran promptly due to the ongoing conflict. The Chinese Foreign Ministry also criticized US President Donald Trump's call for Iranians to evacuate Tehran, describing it as "adding fuel to the fire."

Tensions in the region heightened after Israel conducted airstrikes on multiple sites in Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, leading to retaliatory actions from Tehran. Israeli reports indicate that at least 24 people have been killed, and hundreds injured in Iranian missile attacks, while Iran reported over 224 casualties and more than 1,000 wounded from the Israeli assaults.
