Tehran: The Israeli army asserted on Tuesday that it successfully assassinated Iran's newly appointed wartime chief of staff, Ali Shadmani, during an overnight strike in Tehran.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the operation was carried out following precise intelligence gathered by the IDF Intelligence Directorate, which led to a sudden opportunity for the Israeli Air Force (IAF) to target a command center in Tehran. The strike resulted in the elimination of Shadmani, who held command over both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian army.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had recently appointed Shadmani to the position following the death of Gen. Gholam Ali Rashid, the previous head of the central headquarters of the Iranian military. Rashid was reportedly killed in Israeli airstrikes on Iran the previous Friday, as reported by Iranian state media.
