Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday met with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in Beijing to discuss bilateral ties, focusing on enhancing cooperation across various sectors.

According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Luxon described the meeting as a "valuable opportunity to reflect on the depth and breadth of this important relationship." He highlighted the strong and innovative economic ties between the two nations, emphasizing their complementary trade and economic links, which contribute to prosperity in both countries and support New Zealand's economic ambitions.

Luxon, who is on a three-day visit to China, arrived on Wednesday. This marks his first official trip to China since assuming office in November 2023. During the discussions, both leaders explored ways to enhance collaboration in business, education, culture, science, and people-to-people exchanges.

In addition to bilateral issues, Luxon addressed the necessity of reducing tensions in the Indo-Pacific region. He underscored the significant role China can play in resolving global challenges, such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The New Zealand prime minister is also scheduled to meet with Premier Li Qiang and National People's Congress Chairman Zhao Leji during his visit.
