Islamabad: Pakistan on Sunday condemned the US airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, calling the escalation of the tension and violence 'deeply disturbing.' In a statement, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry reiterated that these attacks violate all norms of international law and that Iran has the legitimate right to defend itself under the UN Charter.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pakistan expressed grave concerns over the potential for further escalation in the region following the US attacks. The statement emphasized the importance of all parties adhering to international law and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry highlighted the need to respect civilian lives and properties and called for an immediate end to the conflict.

Tensions in the region have intensified after US President Donald Trump announced that American forces carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. In response, Iran urged the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to condemn the attacks and hold violators of international law accountable.

Hostilities began on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, leading to Iranian retaliatory strikes. Israeli authorities reported at least 25 fatalities and hundreds of injuries from Iranian missile attacks. Meanwhile, the Iranian Health Ministry reported 430 deaths and over 3,500 injuries resulting from the Israeli assault.
